Salt cathedral of Zipaquirá



As an activity required in Zipaquirá is the visit to the new Salt Cathedral opened in 1995. Located in the interior of a salt mine, as part of the “Parque de la Sal”, a cultural space dedicated to thematic mining, geology, and natural resources.

Unique in its genre in the world, and proposed among the seven wonders of the modern world, is recognized since 2007 as the first wonder of Colombia and considered one of the architectural achievements and most outstanding art of the colombian architecture.

In its interior there is a rich collection of art, especially sculptures of salt and marble covered in an atmosphere of calm and full religious sense.

Park Nukasa

Between the mountains Zipaquireñas of Cundinamarca, to 3.1 kms from the Center of Zipaquirá, in the village of El Cedro, is located in The Ecopark Nukasa. A nature reserve, with features of high forest, highland, and with an approximate height above sea level of 3052 meters.

Archaeological Museum



Located in the park Villaveces, this Museum preserves and exhibits permanently more than 1,000 archeological pieces of fourteen pre-hispanic cultures, where they show how they lived the indians and their relationship with the environment.

Casa Museo Guillermo Quevedo Zornoza


Housed in a colonial-style casona-republican, the House-Museum of Guillermo Quevedo Zornoza is a place where is exposed a part of the history, culture, customs and the musical tradition of our city.

Park Finkana



A place to spend a good family day out, and admire the magic, grandeur, strength, and versatility of the world of horses, in addition to appreciate and interact with the life of the field and domestic animals.

Recommended to get out of the routine of the city, reconnect with the peace of mind that projects the field and have fun with the shows that are presented.

For visitors it is recommended to wear comfortable clothes because you must walk on rural roads.

Cultural center Home of the Nobel peace prize Gabriel García Márquez


Formerly known as the house of Don Salvador Algarra (Alférez Real). In this house of republican architecture and colonial was educated for four years and graduated as a bachelor of the nobel prize of literature; to pay a tribute, in the 2015 inaugurates a proposed museum to expose the life of Gabo in Zipaquirá, and the influence of the city in his office literary. In their journey, and as a complement, one can appreciate the work of the schools of cultural and artistic of the city that work in this place.

Market square, town of Salt



Tuesday is the market day in the city, the market square is decorated in many colors, textures and, above all, many flavors to taste; to buy and to enjoy traditional products and indigenous is a recommended plan for who is visiting the city.

Independence square



Its original name was Plaza de Agustín Zapata, in this place ran up to a few years ago the market square of the city. To commemorate the bicentennial of the independence, was transformed into the plaza of the independence, there is a sculpture of the precursor Antonio Nariño and the pile of water that earlier was located in the plaza de los comuneros. To complement the cultural value, in this square is located the range of leisure and gastronomy of the city, restaurants, cafes and bars that adorn the colonial buildings that surround the square.

Plaza de los Comuneros



Surrounded by narrow streets, beautiful balconies and colonial buildings and republican among which are the municipal palace, the government house and the Diocesan Cathedral, is located in the centre of the city the plaza de los Comuneros. This open square was the scene of the first revolution of America: the signing of the capitulations comuneras in 1781, hence its historical and cultural value.

On its periphery is the epicenter of the trade, the public sector and the financial sector of our city.

Diocesan Cathedral



The north side of the square of the communards is located in the diocesan cathedral of Zipaquirá, a great work style romantic classic, designed by the architect Cappuccino Spanish Friar Domingo Pérez de Petrés. It is the centre of culture and christian tradition in Zipaquirá and is consecrated to the most Holy Trinity and St. Anthony of Padua.

Its construction began in 1804 and replacement on the same site as the church doctrinera franciscan (1604) that had been built by the corregidor Pedro de Tovar y Buendía, and where he will take the oath of the Capitulations Comuneras in 1781. After 111 years of process, was inaugurated and consecrated November 9, 1870, completed in 1916, and finally exalted to Cathedral in 1952, the year in which it was created the Diocese of Zipaquira.
The clock that is located in one of the towers was brought from London and was installed on August 10, 1873.

Foundation station craft of Zipaquirá, Souvenirs and crafts.


On the left side of the train station and from the year 2014 is located the foundation station craft of Zipaquirá, a group of 11 artisans who joined their talents to publicize your art, give you the option to choose souvenirs and rescuing the cultural identity Zipaquireña.

Train station



The Train Station, is a building with a French neoclassical style, inaugurated the 8 of December of 1927 and was known as the station for Three Corners. It was an important point of interest commercial and industrial center of the country during the boom of the train between the decades of 20 and 70 in the last century and declared a national Monument according to Decree 0746 1996.
Currently on Saturdays, Sundays and public Holidays you can enjoy the landscape of the savannah to board the Train, whose route is Bogotá-Zipaquirá and whose stop in our city is performed at this station.

Plaza of the Martyrs Zipaquireños



A road from the transport terminal, is the plaza that was known at the time of the colony as a park, “Villaroel”, there is located the famous obelisk dedicated to commemorate the creation in 1905 of the department of Quesada, the capital of which was Zipaquirá. Originally in the 6 sides of its base were carved the names of the 6 provinces that were.

At the end of the year 1915 as a tribute to the six martyrs Zipaquireños and the heroines fall under the regime of the terror, executed on the 3rd of August, 1816 (Day civic municipal), recorded their names on the obelisk.
